In the Trees
Words and music by Dan Eumurian

They strode thru the forest, they stepped thru the fen,
A two man detachment from the Swamp Fox's* den,
When caught in an ambush by King George's men.
A chatter went up from the jay and the wren

In the trees, in the trees, a chatter went up in the trees.
In the trees, in the trees, a chatter went up in the trees.

"Now throw down your rifles," the redcoats did say.
"A fine little trophy we've caught us today!"
But ere they could muster their captives away,
They saw seven flintlocks were pointed their way.

Now eighteen in crimson were passing thru the land.
They came on the clearing and took things in hand.
But calm stayed the farmers, though seemingly outmanned,
For they saw Francis Marion and thirty of his band

In the trees, in the trees, they looked up and saw them in the trees.
In the trees, in the trees, they looked up and saw them in the trees.

The rest of my story is easy to see.
Though caught in oppression, a man can be set free.
For the real revolution was started along
When a tree held the triumph of right over wrong.

The birds they may poison, the trees they may burn,
But the Lion of Judah has promised to return.
With his blood our forgiveness, our peace is assured,
So join in the victory, for the Wind can be heard

In the trees, in the trees. Our freedom is growing in the trees.
In the trees, in the trees, the Spirit is blowing in the trees.
